The second phase is due to begin in November
At 11am on Sunday, the ceremonial ribbon was cut to mark the official inauguration of the first phase of the remodelling of Magalluf's promenade, the Paseo Marítimo having been renamed after the founder of Meliá Hotels International, the late Gabriel Escarrer Julià.

ChrisI’ve got a better idea. Instead of paying an estimated ANUAL amount of around €40 million for the upkeep and lodging of underaged “migrants” or “social tourists” who never leave, I think Calvia should spend even more on making the place look good to entice higher earners and therefore spenders who DO leave and cost the taxpayer (you ?) nothing to come and enjoy their holidays in Magaluf, or, for that matter, wherever they wish. I’m sure there would be plenty of money left over to actually cater to the demands of the locals, who, strange as it may sound, actually deserve to be looked after before the foreign invaders. Me, I’m still waiting to see the first of the 100’s of thousands of new dwellings the Socialist’s promised to build not more than three years ago.
Fantastic news, this strip means there will be no more balcony deaths, no more muggings by prostitutes and no more tattoed drunken blokes fighting anymore. Bloody genious move 🙈
Hmmm at a time when locals are screaming for more affordable housing, our politicians are gleefully spending money beautifying a resort synonymous with excess tourism. Artificial dunes and oases of palm trees!!! It is very clear where their priorities really lie. If we take the funds for phase 1 (€5m) and phase 2 (let's assume this will cost a further €5m) of this "oh so important" project to beautify Magalluf we could have built 50 or more new apartments to rent at affordable rents to some needy local families. Where are the priorities here? Not at all surprising that local families feel alienated on their own island and that tourists needs are prioritised over the basic needs of local families.
The quickest win is to change its name. Magalluf is synonymous excess and has been for decades. Dropping the name will make a quick and easy win.
Thank you for new Strip!!
Great pics of the new prom Jason.
Hi Folks, we are Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy and Dopey. Our show today begins here in vibrant Mag...what oh sorry Costa de Calv... no? well how about Shaga... not that either. Will someone tell me what this bloody place is called. Santa is asking for the exact address. He wants to send over a DOGE bomb for panto season. To make sure all those high paid functionarios are functionaring efficiently.
