Cordoba 3 - Real Mallorca 1

Under new ownership, Mallorca faced a tough assignment away at top-six side Cordoba. And things did not start well. Fortunately for Mallorca, Fidel hit the bar from the penalty. However, ten minutes later Andone put Cordoba ahead.

Although Mallorca were dominating possession, the home side posed the greater threat, and so it proved, Majorcan Xisco declining to celebrate his 25th minute finish, having got behind the Mallorca defence and converted Andone's pass. Brandon had a promising chance just before the break, but otherwise it was a case of Cordoba on top.

With the second half meandering, Cordoba struck through sub Markovic with his first touch, Wellenreuther (currently rated the division's top goalkeeper) having prevented a second strike by Xisco moments earlier. Immediately, though, Brandon pulled one back for Mallorca. This didn't provoke Mallorca into a comeback, Rios drawing another Wellenreuther save with five minutes left. Bianchi struck the bar with a direct free kick in added time, but that was that.

Mallorca back into the relegation bottom four. If new owner Robert Sarver wants a return on his 20 odd million, he may have to act quickly. Still, Mallorca now have two home games on the trot, having been on the road for two consecutive games. A question now is whether coach Galvez stays.
