Real Mallorca 0 - Alaves 0

Mallorca, scrapping against relegation, at home to Alaves, looking to enhance their automatic promotion second place.

In the first half, although Mallorca dominated possession, it was Alaves who threatened more without giving Wellenreuther anxious moments. As the half wore on, and though Mallorca were well-organised in defence, the frustrations started, with Yuste and Arana going into the book.

Into the second period and Díaz, from a direct free kick, hit the woodwork for Mallorca within six minutes, quickly to be followed by an Ortuño header that drew a save from Pacheco in the Alaves goal. Salomao, on as substitute, did well with an assist from Lago, also brought on, but Mallorca were showing little penetration. Not that Alaves were either. All that was left was for Oriol to be red-carded in time added on, and that was that.

A match with little to commend it in terms of excitement, but a useful point for Mallorca, locked in the current four-way struggle to avoid the final relegation spot.

A word on the attendance: Despite the free tickets for the match for members and five-euro entrance for others, it was disappointing. There again, the traffic disruption in parts of the island because of the Mallorca 312 cycling event may have been a contributory factor.
