Real Mallorca 0 - Numancia 0

In Saturday's matches, Almeria beat Mirandés and so climbed to 48 points (compared with Mallorca's 42) and also confirmed the relegation of Mirandés (Mallorca play Mirandés away next Sunday). Alcorcón in eighteenth on 44 points lost at home to Tenerife, so Mallorca had a real chance to get out of the bottom four against Numancia.

Mallorca, with the same starting eleven as last weekend, took a bit of time to settle but started to dominate after Lago's eleventh minute header was saved by Fernández. Mateu was close a couple of minutes later for Numancia. From that point it was more or less one-way traffic, but Mallorca were unable to mount any real threat, despite being in control.

Into the second period, and the news came that Nastic had taken the lead against Girona. Mallorca weren't getting anywhere. Moutinho, having been subbed at half time, was followed by Brandon some twenty minutes into the half. Perhaps it was the heat, but Mallorca looked drained. Then Nastic added a third.

Coach Barjuán's last throw of the dice was to take off Angelino and put on Lekic. Would the Serbian striker's presence make any difference? At least there was better news from elsewhere, as Elche had gone a goal down. Santamaria needed to keep Medina's effort out, and now Elche were back on level terms.

Dalmau headed wide from close range as the game entered its final five minutes. Lekic had a header saved, and added time was chaotic as Mateu was shown a straight red for a foul on Campabadal, Dalmau's header went wide again, and that was that.

So, two games left, and Mallorca are twentieth with 43 points. Elche are below them, also on 43. Alcorcon slip into nineteenth, while Nastic climb to eighteenth on 46. Cordoba, also on 46, play later at home to Oviedo.

The final two games are at Mirandés and then Getafe at home; Getafe look pretty much secure for a play-off spot.
