Morgan WilliamsStressed ? Moi ?

Charles Dalrymple-ChumleyWay back before all this digression you said “paying tax in Spain as well as the UK would be intolerable”. This is untrue. There is a double taxation convention between Spain and the UK (unaffected by Brexit) which means that you don’t end up paying the same tax twice over. You pay where you are tax resident in any given tax year, i.e. where you spend more than 183 days in that tax year. If you have any questions about it may I suggest you read it. No wonder Jason keeps writing about the 90 day rule. It’s pure clickbait. These articles seem to generate far more comments than all the other articles combined!

LoadsamoneyOk, well, you're just a snob then. And that's perfectly ok, because you left. Supposedly. But I agree that most British tourists tend to be fairly common folk, attracted by whatever is cheapest (but British.. none of that foreign stuff), which might explain why you're not finding anything exceptional in the British enclaves. Good job that's increasingly the minority in tourism here. But you might want to consider whether your snobbishness may have some link to your chronic displeasure in life. Anyway, back to this article. Again... For those wanting to live here half or full time, it might be wise to consider legal residence. It's a lot less stressful than trying to live here "under the radar", as Richard can attest to.

Morgan, i'm glad you are happy, I haven't just scratched the surface, I have counted 520 restaurants i've been to, done the Mallorca 312, Palma half marathon, a beer with Mads Mickleson at the film festival, met Rafa at Flanigans, could go on and on, but its all still average. As for " irrefutable demand " the quality of most tourism in summer is trailer trash, there is also irrefutable demand for the Sun newspaper, does that make it good 🤔. Enjoy your nice little Island as I will enjoy my trip to the Maldives in late March 👍

I spend most of the Winter at our home in Barbados. Here we have a constant 28-30C, blue skies, azure warm sea and powder white sand. Paradise. But for all other entertainment you're on your own. Barbados (and Mallorca) provide the platform. It's up to individuals to create their own entertainment beyond what nature provides. Nothing wrong with that but just saying as @Loadsamoney seems to think that everything should be laid on for him on a plate. It isn't.

LoadsamoneyI never said it was great. It just doesn't suck. As someone who's been in Mallorca for decades, and around the world as much or more than you claim to, I can say with absolute certainty that what you claim sounds suspiciously like you have only scratched the surface of Mallorca, and frankly, compared to much of the rest of the world, it hardly sucks. Especially not in the way you describe. The irrefutable demand speaks volumes about that. And you obviously haven't experienced some of the really fabulous dining here. But you'd need to know about it. You do not seem to be aware that there's lots of Mallorca that's very active year round, including Palma, not remotely resembling your "vapid tumbleweed" characterisation. But you'll need to spend more than a week in magaluf in February to know that. And frankly, there's loads of people of lots of different nationalities who know that very well, and spend their winter money here for that reason. Just not in the British resorts and enclaves, which explains why they're ghost towns right now. But you're (supposedly) gone. And really, nobody gives a hoot whether you're here or not. It's still a lovely place to be - especially in winter, and only a couple hours' flight from northern Europe. What's not to like? Unless you simply don't know, of course.

Morgan, as someone who has lived in Mallorca and been to most places as I have been . I simply don't get it. I know my food and wine (involved in a 2 michelin stared restaurant in London) and I don't get the food or drink in Mallorca. Apart from the Sun, could you please point out what is so great? Don't say cycling as it is much better in Switzerland and France and don't say beaches, overcrowded and polluted. List please.

LoadsamoneyThat's nice, but your English tourist typicality is showing. You clearly don't know much about Mallorca, and you just proved it. No worries... Enjoy wherever it is that you'll be miserable next. Blackpool, Brighton, St. Kitts, Cabo San Lucas, Camps bay, Mendoza, Male, Bangkok ... Wherever 🙄
