This entire movement should be careful as all there effort and energy could be wasted as this is being used by the HOTEL ASSOCIATION & The ANTI TOURIST GROUP as a weapon and actually they could wind up with absolutely NOTHING , it´s not at all clear what they want and talking about getting Violent will do nothing to help there cause .
There are currently nearly 600 properties for sale on the island for less than 200k euros, some less than 50,000. Perhaps people who think that there is a housing crisis on the island might consider buying some of these? A down-payment on a 50k apartment would probably be less than the price of a campervan
Zoltan TeglasAffordable housing is not the answer. Councils in the UK a lot of the time when handing out planning permission, insist on a certain percentage being affordable. Only problem is, that the developers think that £250000 for a 1 bedroom flat is affordable. Social housing is the answer. That way property IS available to locals [in theory] for rent at a sensible fee.
Zoltan TeglasYes, housing is a problem almost everywhere but contrast the UK to Mallorca. In the UK 30% of every housing development has to be affordable housing. Mallorca builds none at all. I don’t understand why
Another big problem for Spanish families and residents been noticed, is property going on the market for rent and the social services offering outrageous amounts to the owners to house illegal migrants. Normal folk can't possibly compete in the price. I know of a friend in a small village who owns a property and was offered 50,000€ by the state to house 6 African migrants. It's lucky he has morals and declined, but I'm sure most wouldn't.
CompoIt seems to be a problem all over Europe - governments (of all colours) have done nothing, whilst populations have increased massively. Maybe they've tried small insignificant things, but for some reason they will not build the big numbers of affordable housing that is needed. GET ON WITH IT NOW!!
… and what I as foreigner find so tiresome is the ever complaining and feeling of entitlement by locals. So what if Swedes or whatever buy homes in Santa Catalina or Santa Eugenia? Who do they buy it from?!?! Is there anything preventing Mallorquins to buy these properties? Duh. So those are not “affordable housing” alternatives anyway. Barking up the wrong tree(s).
There is Frustration on Both side´s with regard to the Squatter Problem and the Lack of affordable housing PLENTY of it , The people Resident´s who can not Find or afford accommodation mostly in Palma I imagine have a tough time as prices have continued to go up on the other side people who have appartment´s don ´t want to rent them as they are not sure the ever smiling renter will keep smiling and say´s well no more Paying and will not leave and as we have seen you need all kind´s of paper work to rent a place anyway , I guess these people want free rent not sure what they want .
Change these ridiculous squatting laws, that would free up a bunch of property's .
Rick VincentThat's what I meant, the wrong choice of words.
