And perhaps I should also add to my comment below (given certain assumptions made by some contributors) - as well as my UK taxes, I have since the 1980's paid many thousands of pesetas/euros in various taxes owed to the Spanish government, as well as spending a small fortune in the excellent bars, restaurants and shops on the lovely island!

Re. a few comments below about my stay in Son Espaces - well obviously Spain and the UK have a reciprocal agreement for use of EHIC cards/treatment and each government pays: what's that got to do with the price of fish? My comments were to do with the excellent care and hard-working staff at Son Espaces.

I fail to understand why I got a red mark from someone for informing about Giles Tremlett’s campaign. I was only trying to be helpful, nothing more. But time to log off now and go out and enjoy the beautiful Mallorcan sunshine! :-)

Mike: Fair enough. Your comment "still in the UK" led me to understand that you still lived in the UK rather than Spain and continual 10 year residence in Spain immediately prior to application is a requirement for nationality. Apologies if you thought I was being disrepectful. As I just said to someone else "quien mal entiende mal responde" and this time I was the one misunderstanding!! P.S. It's 'her' not 'his' and I don't really live in my own little world! ;-)

Tom: Quien mal entiende mal responde. Did you actually read what I wrote? I never said I knew anything about either Mike or George, rather the opposite. I simply asked George whether he knew Steve’s circumstances to enable him to state that the UK would be paying his health care. My comments to Mike were based solely on what he posted. Perhaps I ought to ask you why you conclude that I ‘live here at the moment’ and how I may end up running back to the UK? I have lived in Spain since the 1960s, have Spanish nationality and will have no need (or desire) to go running back to anywhere, Brexit or no Brexit! So to quote yourself “don’t be so quick with the criticism until you know all the facts”!!

Oh s.o. Forgot to mention speak mallorquin and Catalan like a native own 3 business on the island employ 14 mallorquins and pay thousands into their tax and pension system not to,mention private health care for my employees a little more respect for people like me who make it easier for people like you who know nothing about anybody apart from his own little world ,

Exactly s.o. How do you know anything about mike or George DONT be so quick with the criticism until you know all the facts you may live there at the moment but you don’t know anything about the place or how you will end up after brexit running back here I expect .

Giles Tremlett already started a campaign for dual nationality soon after the Brexit vote: https://www.change.org/p/dual-nationality-for-brits-who-have-resided-in-spain-for-more-than-10-years

Mike: do you really expect the Spanish authorities to give you Spanish nationality without even living in the country?! Ten years residence is required in addition to passing language and culture exams. Put another way, would you agree to ‘future’ immigrants to the UK being granted British nationality just because they happen to own a home in the UK?

George: How do you know that Son Espases will be billing the UK for Steve Riches’ treatment? Do you know him? Do you know how long he has lived in Spain? Do you know whether he has worked in Spain and made SS contributions here? Unless you know his circumstances don’t jump to conclusions. Many British people living in Spain are covered by the Spanish NHS and their (our) health care is not billed to the UK.
