Be a good boy and point me at it, and explain it for me.

Pollensa1946: did you actually understand what Viva España wrote ?

user Pollensa1946 | over 6 years ago

Yes, it's a pity Madrid did not adopt the position you advocate rather than sending in the thugs.

Pollensa1946. I can't imagine what TV stations you have been watching to say 'The Catalan independence movement has been generally peaceful and democratic throughout its supposed “rebellion”. The images I saw would certainly contradict this statement. Personally, having lived through the Quebec issue for decades, I feel that if a region wants to separate, the decision should be made by the whole country, not just those in that region. The separation of any country not only affects those in that region but also those who live outside of that region. If you are going to change a country then it is up to those who live in that country and have the right to vote to decide and it cannot be a simple majority. The simple fact is that roughly 3.6 million out of over 46 million want to be independent. As for the 4 million (52%) who live in Catalonia and are proud to be Spanish, is it fair to them? The very fact that so many businesses have left Catalonia tells you something. Business is one of many barometers to go by and in this case it is clearly not on the side of Puigdemont.

I assume you are fully aware of the circumstances that led to the current situation. Namely that an agreement reached between Madrid and Barcelona was struck out by the constitutional court. The European Arrest Warrant is supposed to be used for drug dealers, human traffickers and terrorists. It is an abomination for it to be used to seize democratically-elected politicians. The Catalan independence movement has been generally peaceful and democratic throughout its supposed “rebellion”. The only violence has been from the Spanish police who beat up independence supporters in October, fired rubber bullets indiscriminately and injured hundreds.

Do you mean similar to what has occurred over the past 30 years when central government, both left and right needed the Catalan votes to form a government and in doing so were forced to hand over more and more power and autonomy to the region for what was basically a handful of votes.

Tejero led a military coup, hardly the same thing. Ever heard of negotiation and conciliation.

Facebook and Google track us 24/7 and they are not members of a government security force. The Spanish government are not turning up the heat. They are applying the rule of law. Doing the same thing in Germany means life in jail. In Spain the maximum is 30 years, less with good behaviour. Ask Tejero

And you call this democracy ? Words fail me . Carry on this way and you will put Russia to shame .

user Pollensa1946 | over 6 years ago

The Spanish government are simply turning up the heat on an already boiling and overflowing pot. Idiots! Good luck with the tourist trade in Barcelona this year.
