Real Mallorca 1 - Lugo 1

A home match against Lugo from Galicia, a team hovering in and around the play-off spots, and once more a crucial one for coach Ferrer: the good money before the match having been on his getting the sack if Mallorca lost.

And after a bright enough start by Mallorca, in front of fewer than five thousand spectators, Lugo's Caballero, alone on goal, was denied only by German keeper Wellenreuther. By midway through the first half, it was evident, once more, that Mallorca were proving incapable of creating much of a threat to an opposing defence, and Lugo gradually assumed control, with only Sissoko, just before the break, causing Juan any real anxiety in the Lugo goal.

Ferrer, widely criticised for being too defence-minded, introduced central striker Bianchi for the second half, but it was midfielder Pereira who gave Mallorca the lead after some ten minutes. Just as it looked as though this might be enough and with Mallorca in reasonable command, Caballero, sporadically dangerous, proved the point by equalising with just over ten minutes left.

Mallorca spent the remainder of the game throwing everything at Lugo, with Pereira central to seeking a winner which didn't materialise despite Caballero being sent off for a second yellow offence.
