Prior to the match second-placed Villarreal B had moved within three points of Mallorca at the top of the table, having beaten Olot 2-1 on Saturday. Lleida were in sixth going into the game.

Mallorca went ahead after nine minutes through Pedraza. Lleida immediately hit back, but Molina put a rebound from Felix's attempt over the bar.

There were few other chances made by either side in the first half, but Mallorca really sprang into life after the break. After two minutes Aridai drew the Lleida goalkeeper Rivas and gave Lago an open goal to shoot into. Five minutes later, Bustos from an acute angle shot high into the net.

With a three-goal lead, the match became very comfortable for Mallorca; rather too comfortable perhaps. Lleida scored through Ortuño with fifteen minutes to go. Three minutes later, Raillo was judged to have fouled the same player in the box, and Molina added Lleida's second.

There were some nervous final moments, but the three points were secured. Mallorca are finally back to winning ways, if only just.
