It's suddenly got rather cold in Mallorca with temperatures in the early hours of this Friday morning in the interior of the island and parts of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain dropping to -3ºC in Escorca-Son Torrella. In Lluc, it was -1ºC and in Palma, temperatures fell to zero.

And tomorrow, Saturday, the effects of the ‘Beast from the East’ are expected to reach Mallorca. The forecast is for overcast skies with rain and showers, tending to become mostly cloudy in the afternoon, except in the north of Mallorca, where there may be some isolated showers or storms. The snow line will gfall from 1,400 to 900 metres. Temperatures will drop further in the Serra de Tramuntana. The wind will blow moderately with strong intervals, from the southwest turning towards the northwest at midday.

The weather forecast from the Aemet met. office for Sunday is for cloudy intervals with the possibility of occasional and isolated rain, mainly in the northeast of the island. Night-time temperatures will continue to fall with the possibility of some light frost. Meanwhile, daytime temperatures will remain unchanged or rise slightly. The wind will be light to moderate.

But it could be worse, temperatures in the UK fell to -7C over night, with weather and health warnings now in place. A yellow cold weather warning is coming into force with a risk of ice and snow for some. Yellow cold health alerts have been issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) for a number of areas across England including the North East, North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, and the South East from 9am on Friday until 9am on Tuesday.
