POLLENSA
THE English-Speaking Residents' Association (ESRA) North District were giving away money at the start of their Annual General Meeting in the Neighbourhood Rooms in Puerto Pollensa on Monday. This was not to encourage the 74 members who attended or to keep them quiet when they were there! It was to help the work of the Balear Asociation de Esclerosis Multiple (ABDEM) and the 3000€ was gratefully accepted by their Presidente, Mateu Munar Llull.

The money had been raised at ESRA North's Christmas Bazaar in Pollensa's Cloisters. A further 1000€ is being spent on food to be distributed to the poor in Alcudia.

The packed hall heard from Acting-Chair and ESRA Vice-President, Ann Lilley that it had been a difficult year for the District but it had now recovered and was ready to forge ahead in 2009. She drew attention to members' successes in All-Island events, such as flower arranging and golf. But in the Quiz, Treasure Hunt and Tenpin Bowling the report was “could do better”! At the end of the meeting, Ann Lilley sprung a surprise by awarding Certificates of Appreciation to 18 members who had over the years given exceptional support to the work of ESRA North.

The new committee for 2009 comprises a mixture of old faces, new faces, and a bit of hat changing.
The new Chair is Rosemary Bull (currently Secretary of ESRA's Executive Committee), the Vice-Chair and Fundraiser is Gary Hardley, Allan Bunch has moved from Secretary to Newsletter Editor and Publicity Officer, with Beryl Dales stepping in as Secretary. Pam Dabney continues her good work as Member Support Officer.
