Calvia.—ESRA South West, in addition to its normal weekly meetings, of talks, quizzes and outings, organise many activity groups for more specific pastimes, with none being more popular than Petanca.

This week, ESRA held its inaugural championship for the Jean Cowan Cup.
Jean ran the Petanca group for very many years until, with age catching up on her, she returned to live in her native Scotland last year.
More than thirty players took part in the knockout tournament held in bright sunshine at the Son Caliu sports ground.
Close fought match
The final proved to be a close fought match, in which the tricky bowling of the Moira Ellison and Brian Mee partnership overcame the might of a team consisting of André Magnin, Robin Musters and Brian Feltham. The Chairman, in presenting the trophy, commented on how the Petanca group had changed since those days, fifteen or so years ago, when half a dozen members used to regularly turn up to play the game on the beach at Santa Ponsa.

The tournament, most ably organised by Kathryn Stych, concluded with a lunch held at Restaurant El Cruce.
The ESRA South West Petanca group play at Son Caliu throughout the year, and new members are always welcome.
Anyone wishing to join should contact Kathryn on 971-231677.
