Palma.—The Guardia Civil have arrested a 16-year-old and a 19-year-old in connection with six fires in the Algaida region over the weekend.
According to the Guardia Civil, the first fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning near the Algaida cooperative headquarters which destroyed part of an almond plantation. Then, on Sunday, a further five fires broke out in the area.

Two were set off near the public car park and one of the fires nearly caught a parked car. Algaida was celebrating its annual festivals so the car parks and village was packed.

Police immediately suspected that the fires were the acts of a or various pyromaniacs and while fire fighters rushed around the town putting out the fires, police first caught the 16-year-old, apparently in possession of flammable liquids, who in turn turned his alleged 19-year-old accomplice over to the police.

Police have however ruled out their connection with any of the other fires across the island.
