STAFF REPORTER THE prosecutor in the case of a lorry driver whose articulated vehicle overturned on the Paseo Maritimo in Palma in April 2007, killing a Bulgarian air hostess and gravely injuring a second, is seeking a jail sentence of four years for criminal negligence. The driver's lawyer meanwhile has declared that his client was completely in control of the vehicle at the time of the incident and that its tipping over was little other than a tragic accident.

Prosecution counsel accused the driver of several crimes including gross negligence and conduct at the wheel likely to endanger traffic. On top of the jail sentence, counsel urged the bench that the driver be stripped of the right to drive any kind of motorised vehicle for a period of six years.
