STAFF REPORTER THE Balearic Consumers Union warned yesterday that the fact that electricity users will have a choice of new suppliers as of 1st July this year, doesn't automatically mean that power is going to be cheaper. On the contrary, it may mean considerable increases in bills.

The Union therefore urged consumers to have a thorough look at the different tariffs being offered by the new suppliers before decidiing what is best. The Union condemned the lack of information made available about the alternative electricity companies and said that the widening of choice had not taken the consumers into account when broader commercialisation had been planned.
