THE best quality and healthiest salt in Spain is produced on the island of Formentera in the Balearics.
It has the lowest sodium content on the Spanish salt market and is the only one containing marine iodine thanks to the mineral, oxygen, and filtration properties of the sea water. Now these healthy benefits are appearing on the meal tables of consumers, in liquid form, thanks to a development by local company, Salines (saltworks) de Formentera.

Director, David Calzada, said yesterday that the lack of sodium is compensated by the presence of other minerals which are good for the health such as magnesium, potassium and calcium.

Extracting the salt from the Natural Park of Ses Salines on Formentera is a painstaking process in order to ensure that the best health-giving minerals are retained, he said.
