Local businesses in Majorca had their biggest boom in sales this year since 2009, a report by the National Statistics Institute revealed yesterday.

Palma.—Sales rose sharply during the first eight months of 2013, reaching the 2.274 million euros mark, 61 million more than during the same period last year, and just short of the figures achieved in 2009, 2.277 million.

These results come as a surprise for many, after a Summer filed with complaints by local businesses saying that tourists were spending a great deal less this year.
