Bellver Castle summer concerts with the Balearic Symphony Orchestra. | TERESA AYUGA

Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra (Op. 34) was commissioned for an educational documentary film called Instruments of the Orchestra that was released in November 1946.

It was based on Henry Purcell’s incidental music to Aphra Behn’s Abdelazer and is one of Britten’s best-known works. The Balearic Symphony Orchestra will feature this in the programme for its second summer concert at Bellver Castle. Also including the overture to Rossini’s Barber of Seville, Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto Op. 16 and Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto Op. 26, the soloists will be Liam de Paor (piano) and Carme Alzina (violin).

The first of the five concerts at the castle is on June 29 - Brahms and Rachmaninoff piano concertos.
