Porreres.—The land where the arsenal is located is at the highest point in the municipality of Porreres, puig d'en Famella. Along with a military storage unit in Santa Magdalena in Inca, the site is one of two built on Majorca during the 1940s.

The land in Porreres which has been sealed off from the public as a military zone is just a few months away from being abandoned as the long tunnel gouged out of the mountain for weapons storage is now empty and the few soldiers that are there will be gone by the end of the year.

At the last full council meeting, it was agreed by all parties that the necessary paperwork should be started to reclaim the land from the Ministry of Defence so that the property can be returned to the municipality. The land is extensive, and includes woodland that forms part of a protected area of natural interest (ANEI). The tunnel buried in the mountain is 1.2 kilometres in length, and has storage buildings alongside measuring some 300 to 400 square metres.

Recovery of the land and buildings by the council would mean that the site could be put to all sorts of use, such as storage for the municipal brigade and Civil Defence units.
