Same old problems
Dear Sir,
We read the letter about Calvia in Wednesday’s Bulletin with interest?
We have written several times on the same theme, some of which you have published, but to little or no effect.
As your reader stated, the pub crawls etc are bad publicity but popular as far as the media are concerned. What about security on the streets?
The people who take part in sex acts, although having no regard for their own safety, actually do not cause any trouble.
The problems are the ‘prostitutes’ and pickpockets. In 2013 we actually witnessed acts of  violence by the prostitutes from our hotel balcony, saw the police ‘round up’ groups of these women and drive them away, only to see them back on the corner again the next evening. My husband and I were followed by 2 of these women when we returned to our hotel one night and we are in our sixties!
A friend had her bag ripped off her shoulder in her hotel grounds by a group of pickpockets. We owned an apartment for many years and made some very good friends, so we are returning this year, but it may be the last time.
Magalluf is a great resort, or it used to be, but unless something is done - and quickly - it will become a ghost town. It doesn’t matter how much money is spent making things look ‘pretty’, unless people feel safe on the streets they will not come. We feel we can no longer recommend Magalluf as a holiday destination, as we have in the past.
Regards
Dave and Pat Andrew

Dear Sir,
Having just returned from a 10 day break covering 2 full weekends in the resort of Magalluf, I can report that nothing has changed on Punta Ballena.
The place is still awash with “Lucky Lucky’s”, street drinking and so called PR’s who are mostly obnoxious and rude, a lot of which are still working without the correct authority to do so. Don’t bar and club owners know that they would probably get more people over the threshold and into their premises if prospective customers  weren’t hassled at the door or on the street?
Prostitutes are often seen parading this area ‘dressed for business’ quite openly.
So much for the authorities bringing in new laws to clean the area up. Where were the Police? We certainly didn’t see any and we were on Punta Ballena at some point every night, drinking and eating and  in the hope of seeing some sort of improvement or control taking place, nothing. It really does make you wonder that somewhere there is some sort of incentive to just turn a blind eye to the goings on.
This is only just the start of the summer season  and I sincerely hope that this is not going to be another season of empty promises and  just words from Calvia Council. It would be a great shame.
