Dear Sir,
In last Friday’s edition of the DB, The Week in Tourism by Andrew Ede reports that the hotel chain ‘Fergus is following in the footsteps of Cursach in seeking to introduce a different and better class of younger tourism to Magalluf’.
As a bar owner in the resort for the last eighteen years I must take issue with this. Whilst Magalluf has always had a certain notoriety as a party resort, its steady decline over recent years coincides with the ever increasing all inclusive trend. Apart from the devastating effect this has on local businesses (Ask anyone with a bar, shop or restaurant in the extensive area around the new Cursach owned BH hotel complex how this season is shaping up), free alcohol as part of the package is unlikely to attract a better class of younger tourism.
Quite the opposite. Binge drinking on free alcohol all day in the hotels before hitting `the strip` is the order of the day.   Magalluf and it’s businesses then have to deal with the resulting mess, bad press and ever increasing draconian regulations whilst the large hotels are publicly lauded for their efforts. There are almost no hotels left in Magalluf that don’t promote all inclusive packages.
Some bars have followed suit with free bar offers to try and compete in some way with the hotels. ALOC, which is a rapidly growing association of  bar owners in the area, is completely against all forms of free alcohol offers, be they in hotels discos or bars. Unless the authorities tackle this cynically irresponsible behaviour head on, there’s little hope of anything but the further degradation of Magalluf.

Dear Sir,
Anna Nicholas´s comments about rubbish bins, describe, probably unwittingly, the state of the EU, and why David Cameron is demanding a change in the way it is being run.
 Yours sincerely,
