Two out of every ten Balearic residents live below the poverty line, according to a report published this week by social security officials during a seminar in Palma.

Palma.— On the occasion of the II European seminar against child poverty at the  Caixa Forum, several senior members from the  Spanish Social services along will  representatives from Europe’s Poverty  and Social Exclusion in Spain organisation, met and exposed “the alarming situation many local families are currently under.” Sandra Fernandez, the Balearic Minister for  Social Welfare  warned that the situation warrants urgent attention and “primary care in all the local councils  needs to be bolstered to  prevent child poverty levels from rising.” Fernandez added that “the network projects between the different councils must also continue” if the issue is to be resolved.
