Officers from the the Mossos d'Esquadra shot dead four suspected terrorists in the resort of Cambrils (Tarragona) early this morning. A fifth suspected terrorist later died. They were in a car which ran into a group of seven people, one of them a police officer. One person is in a critical condition.

The attackers' vehicle overturned. When they left the car, police fired on them. They were wearing explosive devices.

The police are linking the Cambrils and the attack in Barcelona yesterday afternoon to an explosion at a property in Alcanar on Wednesday. One person died. Police believe that an explosive device was being prepared.

Alcanar is a short distance south of Cambrils, which itself is south of Barcelona and is a popular resort near to Salou.
