The Balearics and the War

THE Balearic Government has created a so-called war cabinet to discuss and analyse the affects of the Iraq conflict and they will be holding their first meeting today. These are vital points which should be on the agenda today:
1). The tourist tax. With the drop in the value of sterling and Germany being in deep recession wouldn't it be a good idea to scrap the levy until times improve.
2). Bus travel. Wouldn't it be a good idea to offer tourists discounts on public transport which would mean that the whole island would benefit from tourism.
3). Launch a massive poster campaign, under the umbrella of a tourist a friend, thanks for making this island one of the most prosperous in the European Union and please continue to visit.
4). Organise a series of free entertainment events for tourists and residents alike which could take place throughout the summer.
5). Organise a hotline system so that tourists can complain about anything they feel has marred their holiday.
6). Organise a series of weekly talks for tourists on Majorcan culture and language so that tourists can feel more at home.
Well they are the six points which I feel need some debate and consideration. Oh, but they have little to do with the Iraq war. But no worries because issues such as Iraq are handled by the central administration in Madrid and as the local government has about as much clout as a County Council or a regional authority they shouldn't be discussing matters of state in the first place. There are more pressing problems, closer to home, which need their attention.
