l It can only be Pope Francis whose election by his fellow Cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church has raised hope that the many problems facing the Church will now be recognised by the Vatican and in due course addressed with the insight and urgency that they require.

Although much has been made of the new Pope's Argentinian background it would be wrong to think his outlook and influence will be political except in the general sense that he will represent the poor of the world who make up the majority of his Church's adherents.
