DEAR SIR, RE: “AUSTERITY” IE: “Government created difficult economic measures, to reduce public spending

A word, much used of late, by national and regional politicians who obviously have little or no idea of the true meaning of the world.
Take for example the case of the 3 national politicians, who on the same day, used 3 separate private plans, to visit Brussels! Locally, take the case of Territorial Plan “E” - where a further 40 plus projects are planned for completion by the end of the year, at a cost of 35 million euros! Nowhere is it taken into account, the cost of lost tourism and business due to the island resembling one enormous building site, for the third year in succession.

Lastly, as questioned by a report in the Ultima Hora, why, after 3 years in power, does Sr Antich decide to make a promotional trip to Russia during the week of the national strike? and from where is the 1 million euros coming to promote the Balearics in Russia for 2011 season? One thing is blatantly obvious, local government is unconcerned with the plight of the tourist industry for this year! As a taxpayer whose money Sr Antich is spending, I feel I have the right to know:
1) who/what capacity undertook the Russia visit
2) what was the cost of the visit /(with the whole trip itemised). Surely austerity means now, more than ever, there is a need for transparency and accountability, at governmental level.

Yours sincerely,

M Irving
