THERE is much talk of doom and gloom in Majorca at the moment and sometimes you do get the impression that little is being achieved to stop the endless slide into the gloom. But there is some good news as this week, Bulletin columnist and former Olympic swimmer Matthew O'Connor opened one of Majorca´s best prepared sporting facilities which will enable the swimming elite to come to the island and train for major world championships. Already the Spanish swimming team have trained at this state of the art facility and the British Olympic team could do so also in the near future. The opening took place on Thursday. Substantial investment has been made in the project and it will pay hefty dividends for Majorca. Well done Matthew, Majorca now has a first rate swimming facility thanks to you.

I was amazed to read that the Bank of England believes that a weak pound is good for British exports. The reason why I was so surprised is that I didn´t think Britain made anything to export in the first place! I do believe in putting a positive spin on things but it is always a good idea if you are backed up by facts. What worries me is that these people are in charge of Britain´s finances and they still think that Britain exports.
