All Inclusive

Dear Sir,

If there is not a drastic cut in all inclusive deals very soon I predict all of the resorts on the island will turn into Chinese junk shops.

It’s already happening in Peguera.

Yours sincerely,

Lawrence Cairns

Dear Sir,

Is it not time to look at the all-inclusive debate, from a different perspective? There are, I believe, just over a million inhabitants living on Majorca. These include many expatriates such as myself, not affected in the slightest by the subject raised. Now, although I am aware of the problems facing Spain, unemployment the most pressing, the country is gradually emerging from austerity, and hopefully things can only improve.

One of those tasks is to stimulate the all-important Tourist industry. Everybody is agreed upon that. It is no good berating hoteliers for encouraging to state at their hotels that are all-inclusive. Do any of the critics of this occurring, realise that all over the world, similar all-inclusive are being offered, so if you try to limit or as some fanatics propose, ban them. You will only succeed in shooting yourself in the foot, and driving customers elsewhere. The question of bar and restaurant prices has been raised, but again, only at those resorts catering for tourists, though even here, the indigenous citizens know perfectly well, those businesses offering the best value for money. And, let it be said, they are the bars and restaurants, that are filled.

I happen to live in an area unaffected by tourists, except for those staying at self-catering apartments nearby, yes, the very places that, paradoxically, the hoteliers want banned or restricted!

It’s a funny old world, and, as the man said, "You can’t please all the people, all the time". It seems to me at times, that on Majorca, you can’t please ANY people at ANY time!

Yours Sincerely,

Dear Sir,

My wife and I have just collected our new medical cards and they have your NIE and Photo on and are as good as a resident’s card for ID purposes. Just take your old card, two photos and a copy of your resident certificate, to your local medical centre and they will do the rest - in our case, in just one week. It now lasts four years. Simple.
