By Jason Moore THE latest piece of city council legislation states that your pet should carry its ID at all times (!) and also there are heavy fines if your pet is caught fouling the footpath. I am a law-abiding dog owner so someone please tell me where do I walk my dog legally in the city. Judging by this latest piece of legislation I am going to have to run the gauntlet of city officials who are on the lookout. Obviously, if your pet fouls the footpath, pavement etc you are duty bound to collect the offending matter and dispose of it. I would like to suggest to the council that areas should be accommodated for pets within the city. Also, I don´t think that pet owners should be held responsible for the appalling state of some streets in Palma. Why is it that parties can take place along the sea-front which leaves a massive debris of bottles and other articles and nothing is said but if you are a dog owner beware. Palma has plenty of ideal parks (little used in most cases) which could easily be transformed into dog walking areas. Owners would agree to leave the area how they found it and it could be a real asset to the area. In the meantime, next time I take the dog for a walk I will ensure that I am carrying my residencia and passport, the dog´s passport and plastic bags and gloves!
