YET again for President Assad of Syria who has extended the range of his army's actions into neighbouring Lebanon with the excuse that it must stop weapons being smuggled from there to the Syrian opposition. Thus far the demonstrations in Syria against Assad's unwillingness to introduce his promised democratic reforms have been peaceful despite extensive killings and arrests by the Syrian army. If arms are reaching the demonstrators the predicted civil war may not be far away.
