Dear Sir, MY friends and I were really upset to see the picture of a performing bear at the circus in your newspaper on Saturday (page 24). I thought this kind of thing had gone out years ago. Your description of it as “animal magic” was wide of the mark. More like “animal cruelty” I'd say. Most circuses nowadays put on shows without captive animals. IT is obvious from your article that you have never visited the above, or you would relaise that one thing it isn't is a “Boot Sale”. It is a MARKET, occupied mainly by marketeers/stallholders found at all other markets on the island, resulting in the “ordinary car boot seller” unable to get “a pitch”. Also, the present toilet facility defies description! Instead of criticising Calvia Council, for once let's congratulate them for trying to make it fairer and cleaner for all genuine “Boot Sellers”, and perhaps there will also be less calls on the local police to “sort out” arguments arising from unfair allocation of stalls which have been booked/reserved in advance.
