For Radovan Karadzic who began his defence against a charge of genocide at the International Criminal Court in the Hague by claiming that he should be rewarded, not prosecuted, for his “peace-loving policies” as the Bosnian Serb commander in Srebrenica in 1995.

Karadzic evaded capture after the Balkan wars for thirteen years but is now charged with responsibility for the massacre of eight thousand men and boys at Srebrenica and for the siege of Sarajevo and ethnic cleansing.
