Double drowning on Playa de Palma

TWO holiday makers drowned within an hour and 200 metres of each other on the Playa de Palma yesterday.
The first incident involved a 60-year-old tourist and occurred at 10am.
The alarm was raised and the 112 emergency centre dispatched members of the National and Local Police to the scene while Red Cross beach guard managed to manoeuvre the victim out of the water and onto the beach, near Balneario 10, where paramedics were already waiting.

Sadly, despite their efforts to revive the 60-year-old, they were unable to save his life.
Obviously, the victim was not carrying any form of identification and police spent most of the morning trying to identify the victim, although the coroner said that the holiday maker was aged 60.

Then, less than an hour later and just 200 metres from the first tragedy a 65-year-old tourist died after suffering a heart attack while swimming in the sea off Balneario 15.

He was rescued by beach guards and rushed to hospital by a 061 ambulance but sadly died on arrival at the Palma hospital.
It has been a tragic few weeks in Majorcan waters.
On the evening of July 17, a 68-year-old died after suffering problems while swimming off Balneario Zero, again on the Playa de Palma, and was rushed to hospital after being rescued.

Then, last Thursday afternoon a 75-year-old man died while swimming off the beach in Alcudia.
In total, four holiday makers have died in the past ten days.
Police and medical sources investigating both of yesterday's tragedies said last night that it appears that yesterday's first victim also suffered a heart attack while swimming.
