Sotto voce for Rupert Murdoch who ended a tumultuous week by making as abject a public apology as any media mogul has ever done in a full-page advertisement appearing in many newspapers -- including The Guardian which has done most of the spade work on the phone-hacking story when the police lost interest. Interesting that Murdoch copied the phrase used by his son James at the beginning of the week: “The News of the World was in the business of holding others to account. It failed when it came to itself.”
