DEAR SIR,

CARE HIRE AT PALMA AIRPORT

I wrote earlier in the year about the huge increase in car hire charges by companies based at the airport. Last week I checked again to see if the prices had reduced as you imply in several articles that visitor numbers are on the up. I found that the cost of a VW Golf for 15 days was over €2'000, a six fold increase since last year.

I noted Diana Pyle's experience from her letter in today's letter page and your article that ‘secondhand car prices nose dive in the Balearics'. Perhaps there is room at the airport for an entrepreneur used car salesman who could drive the car hire sharks out of business.

DEAR SIR,

COMPLAINT - STOLEN GOODS ON A FLIGHT

ON Sunday, I returned home from a wonderful holiday with 5 of my 7 siblings and other friends. We have been going to Majorca for 40 years now but not for years has the majority of the family been out there. It was a very special occasion but we missed our mother, who unfortunately is too ill to travel, she has leukemia. I therefore made it my mission to capture as much of Majorca, family and friends on camera and video (personal messages to her)
Unbelievably, once home, having unpacked my suitcase, I found that my camcorder, camera and their two chargers had been ‘stolen' out of my suitcase during travel. I am devastated and disgusted! It was a flight from Palma to East Midlands airport. How can people get away with such a crime? I have contacted my travel insurers, who say I am not covered as the items were in my suitcase. I had no idea about this and having told many others, I am not the only person.

Yours faithfully,

Natasha Schaper
