Dear Sir WONDERFUL to read the report yesterday that Palma's small businesses are gearing up to have a bumper Xmas, albeit, rather grudgingly, switching the lights on later (Won't that deter customers?). During all this frenetic activity, does it not occur to anyone what the impact of TWO days - December 6th and 8th - of fiestas might be, when businesses do not open, or in some cases, close at midday? This year, the two days in question are Thursday and Saturday, with the infamous Día Puente - Friday, leading to a shut down, in some cases of FOUR WHOLE days. I realise that this last statement only applies to government departments, banks etc., but it is a brake on the activities that you so earnestly pray for, and should be scrapped or modified, and the small business leaders should direct their energies to achieving this.
