The past three years have witnessed a huge surge in the demand for electricity in the Balearics, according to the gas and electricity board, GESA. Yesterday the company announced that demand has increased “impressively” by 30 per cent over the past three years and last year alone the rise was 10.3 per cent. The directors of Distribution and Electricity Generating, Enrique Gallango and Juan Jaume, said yesterday that the main reasons for the sharp increase in demand are the strong growth of the economy, an excellent tourist season, the high level of earnings in the Balearics, an increase in the number of electro-domestic goods being installed in homes and the contiued growth in the second-home market.
