Stars of British soccer, comedy and stage gathered in Santa Ponsa yesterday for the Robert Winsor charity golf tournament.

The Robert Winsor charity golf tournament tees off this morning in Santa Ponsa with the celebrity players having just one mission, to raise as much money as possible for local charities. Last year nine million pesetas was raised and this year the VIP players want to pass the 10 million peseta mark. There is an ample range of golfing talent on offer ranging from top comedians to former footballers and from royalty to stuntmen. Yesterday, all the players decided to have a preparatory round at Santa Ponsa II. They were greeted by Princess Birgitta of Sweden, who is also competing. The VIP competitors are Stefan Blocher, (top international hockey player), Duggie Brown, Jasper Carrott, former England cricket captain Brian Close, former international footballer Bernd Patzke, Peter Stringfellow, snooker star Willie Thorne, stuntman Rocky Taylor, Jess Conrad, football star Mike England, comedian Joe Goodman, football star Terry Mancini and top impression artist Johnny More. All proceeds from event will go to the Los Niños sin Hogar, centre for homeless children. Robert Winsor first established himself as a major charity raiser in 1980 when he sponsored the first Robert Winsor Pro-Celebrity Golf classic. This will be his 10th event of this type and more than 400'000 pounds has been raised for charity. The nine million pesetas raised at the event last year was used to buy state of the art wheelchairs which were presented to 15 local children.
