Alvaro Gijon, the councillor in charge of traffic and transport made the announcement yesterday, during the presentation of European Day Without Cars, which is being celebrated today.
He was accompanied by Mayor Catalina Cirer and deputy mayor Francisca Bennassar, who heads the tourism department.
Gijon said that the Parc de la Mar initiative had proved to be so popular (2'600 bikes have been loaned since the scheme started in April) that it had been decided to extend it.
Fifteen bikes (six for men, seven for women and two for children) will be available at both the Santa Payesa and Via Roma car parks, he said.
