JAIL without possibility of bail was the sentence yesterday for five of the seven alleged members of the Latin King gang who were arrested by National Police in Palma last Wednesday.

The gang were accused of a brutal attack on a young Bolivian man which resulted in serious injuries. The presiding magistrate said that all five, Ecuadorian by nationality, should remain in prison until their case is heard in court. A Colombian woman, one of the two who remained at liberty will also face trial but is meanwhile caring for her baby. The other, a Chilean had reportedly not belonged to any organised gang for a period of five years. The accused are denying their implication in the assault and even that they are part of a gang. They referred to the incident in which the Bolivian suffered grievous body harm as just a “youngsters' fight.”
