Staff Reporter ONE of every three people in the Balearics (35.7 percent of the population) is overweight and one in 10 (12.2 percent) is obese, said regional Health Minister, Vicenç Thomas, yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion of National Nutrition Day, Thomas said that the two conditions afflict the male population (42.5 percent) more than the female one (28.6 percent). Women, however, are more likely to suffer from being underweight. Thomas visited an information tent at Plaça Porta Pintada in Palma where he said that the promotion of a healthy diet and active life was one of the priorities of his ministry.
