STAFF REPORTER THE Choral Federation of the Balearic Islands got together for a major celebration on Sunday when 400 singers massed alongside the old city walls at Ses Voltes in the Parc de la Mar in Palma.

The singers, representing some of the most important choirs on Majorca, were marking the occasion of the Day of the Family. Organisers of the event said the Federation - which has some 8'000 members - was delighted with what it described as “a rally of unprecedented support.” The occasion consisted of a wide programme of musical and cultural events, including concerts, which were able to be enjoyed by people who had attended in family groups. The very young lost no time in joining in organised games and letting off steam on the bouncy castle.

The rally was attended by Tourism Minister, Miquel Nadal, and Palma's Youth and Sports Councillor, Baldomero Oliver. Around 700 people attended the festival which started around 11am and finished at 2pm with participants being able to lunch on a giant paella.
