Nearly 13% of hotel reservations in the Balearics are made on line

· Although 12.9 percent of the total number of hotel bookings in the Balearics are made on the internet, the figure is still less than the national average of 17.9%, a report by the Tourism ministry confirmed yesterday.

Madrid and Catalonia were the regions with hotels for which most bookings were made on line, 27.9 and 26.2 percent respectively. Andalucia was in third place followed by Valencia (17.5%), the Balearics (12.9%) and the Canary Islands (9.3%). The Ministry says that its research shows an increasing dependence on the internet for holiday bookings in Spain, although using travel agents and contracting package deals still remains a more popular option.
