Palma.—The Balearic government's Public Health and Consumer Affairs department is urging the public to buy “responsibly” over the coming Halloween festival.

The government is anxious that the same attention should be paid to standards of quality and safety when purchasing Halloween disguises as are demanded of any other product, even if the items are only used for a short period of time. A spokesman for the department said that in order to enjoy Halloween in complete safety, it is important not to buy any products which are a risk to health. The same sources said that if consumers detected any below-par items, the department recommends consulting with their offices where products will be assessed. Consumers are reminded that disguises for children are classed as toys and should therefore comply with standards demanded for their age.

The “CE” sign denoting European Community safety standards is an important sign to look out for.
