Palma.—The Balearic government yesterday announced that the global Majorcan hotel chain, Meliá Hotels International, is to be awarded the “Merit for Public-private Cooperation in the Tourist Industry” in recognition of the work the chain is carrying out in renovating the resort of Magalluf.

The hotel chain, during the first nine months of this year made a net profit of 36.7 million euros, has already opened two renovated establishments, such as the wave house, as part of its “Calvia Beach Resort” project and the local authorities believe that once completed, Magalluf will have a new international image which will greatly benefit Calvia as whole.
