THE New Year has begun with changes to the rates in Palma and where the majority consist of increased tariffs, they are accompanied in some instances by discounts and improved service.

Within the municipal bus service (EMT), the price of an ordinary single ticket will rise from 1.10 euros to 1.25, a hike of 13.6 percent. Residents in Palma however, who make use of the Citizens Card and until now have paid 0.46 per journey, will in future be parting with 0.65 euros, an increase of 41.3 percent.

The plus side to new rules and regulations is that bus journeys within the city boundaries will be free to the under sixteens and that in the second half of January, a new multi-ticket system will be introduced. The “T-20” will cost 10 euros, the “T-50” will cost 20 euros and the “monthly indefinite use” ticket of 27 euros will provide savings of between 60 and 78 percent on the price of a single ticket.
