PALMA
SUPERMARKET chain Carrefour is to give work to Balearic women who have been the victims of domestic violence.
The new initiative agreed by Carrefour and the Balearic Institute for Women will be a “useful instrument” for getting women who have suffered domestic violence back into the workplace, explained, the Balearic Minister for Social Affairs, Promotion and Immigration, Josefina Santiago.

Santiago said the agreement would allow women who have suffered violence at the hands of their partners to overcome their “economic dependence” which, according to the Minister, in many cases stops the victim “making a complaint against her aggressor and leaving him”.

The Balearic Institute for Women will be in charge of analysing each case and supplying Carrefour with the details of women who could be included in this programme for social and work support.

To determine which women should be given these posts “an expert valuation” will be made to confirm that the woman has been the victim of domestic violence.
