MADRID
WORKS committees of Kraft Food factories across Spain will be “looking for solutions” at a meeting in Madrid to address the issue of the plant on Minorca where the company wants to close down operations but the workers will not accept redundancy.

The Works Committees are proposing that if Kraft wants to cease trading in Minorca, then it is hoped that the company will consider selling. If Kraft representatives say today that they are in favour of a sale, and it is an option the company has not totally rejected, then it would also “interest” the workers if Kraft were to sell the “El Caserío” brand. Original plans of the company were, however, to take their trademark with them back to Belgium. In advance of tomorrow's key meeting, Works Committees are preparing behind closed doors to take a united stand against Kraft's plans to close operations.
