THREE Majorcan fashion companies are taking part in a new edition of the Spain Fashion Exhibition in Tokyo, where 22 Spanish companies (which represent 37 brands) are presenting their autumn-winter 2006-2007 collections. The show is taking place in the emblematic Hilton hotel in the Japanese capital.
According to sources at the Institute for Exterior Commerce (ICEX), Japan is a priority market for the Spanish fashion trade because they buy a lot of fashion products and have a lot of money to spend. The Majorcan companies are: Palou Reus Mateo (from Selva, with the brand May Jas's); Riera Gil (from Inca, with the brand Tuent); and Ses Jardines (also from Inca, with the brand Munper). The Spanish companies have been preparing for this show for some time as the Spain Fashion Exhibition is a vital event for presenting new trends and contacting clients. During the past year, the companies in the Spanish fashion trade sold 116 million euros worth of products to Japan, making it the third highest importer of Spanish fashion goods, mostly garments made of leather and bags and other articles made of Moroccan tooled leatherwork. The Spanish exhibition is made up of 22 companies from the leather clothing, children's clothing, women's clothing and Moroccan tooled leatherwork sectors. Nine of these come from Barcelona, three from the Balearics, another three from Valencia, two from Girona, another two from Zaragoza, and one each from La Coruña, Madrid and Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. At the same time, British and French fashion companies will be exhibiting at the Imperial hotel, while Italian companies will be presenting their collections in the Okura hotel.
